METHERINGHAM AIRFIELD

Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre, a small museum, supported by the Friends of Metheringham Airfield that is dedicated to those men and women who flew and supported RAF 106 Bomber Squadron from 1943 until the end of the second world war.

The visitor centre contains an abundance of information and displays many artefacts that relate to those flyers, aircrew and ground staff who flew and offered support to the squadron during its presence in Metheringham.

In the website You will find plenty of information about what we do, some of our history and how you might support us through membership. Better still, why not give us a visit? ENTRANCE IS FREE. You will find our volunteers knowledgeable and welcoming.

The bases water supply that was built by 300 skilled Irish workers. When you actually get up to it and have a look, its huge, and you can appreciate the craftsmanship. To get the thing erected and to stand the test of time. Amazing.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THESE ARE THE OLD BUILDINGS FROM THE ORIGINAL AIRFIELD AND NOT THE CENTRES ..!! PLEASE VISIT THEIR SITE ON THE LINK ABOVE TO SEE THE CENTRE..!!

I was met on a lovely Saturday morning by the site curator Rod Sanders.

It was evident from the off that this chap knew his stuff and the volunteers certainly take pride in their centre. It is not the finished article , not by a long shot. Having to rely a lot on donations this is certainly a marathon and not a sprint. In saying that it is clear from items that are finished are lovingly cared for, and in future times this will be a more popular venue than it is already.

Rod gave me a behind the scenes tour , he is a brilliant chap and is obviously very proud of the site, and his knowledge was frighteningly good. I was fortunate to be able to go with him and see parts of the old airfield and how the buildings not taken over by the centre look after all these years. I have to say a big thank you to Rod and everyone else connected to the centre for a wonderful tour.

I will be going back in its open season for sure.
